Invest in mattifying lid and face primers as well as a good setting powder if you have oily skin. Many years of trial and error has shown me that there is no such thing as a long wear matte foundation on its own despite it’s claims.
I alternate between applying it with a BB type sponge, triangle puff or brush instead of the typical compact sponge applicator. Brushes seem to take majority out of the grids I find.
NARS Light Reflecting Setting Powder. The mini is a good way to try it out. Then when you decide it’s the best thing you could possibly find for oily skin you can buy the full size for home and leave the mini in your bag. I sat on this one for a long time assuming other mattifying powders would perform better. They didn’t, or at least to to the extent this one does.
Recommend this one also. The packaging is sturdy and you can achieve a variety of looks with it. The shades “funny girl” and “rocker” can also double as a highlighter if you want (just to add on to the previous comment in regards to multifunctionality). I love using a damp brush to apply “rebel” and " leader" together on my bottom lash line. It makes my eyes pop!
If you are looking for actual product it may be best to get a Sephora gift card (that or maybe Ulta if you are American). Cosmetics are a highly individualized thing when you take into account skin type, skin tone, sensitivities etc. If you do still wish to purchase product despite this a good option may be a “Sephora favorites” set. They vary in price and contain an assortment of color products. You can consult those who work there for recommendations that might go over well.
