The Cartier! I don’t see too much on here about them, but I love a good Cartier.
Whoa…
Any collection with a Freak is next level
How long was the wait on that VC? That thing is absolutely gorgeous! Do you have any other pics of it?
This one? https://www.instagram.com/reel/CvK-dF4NYo5/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
Or my other Overseas? The Chronograph was a text away. It got me in line for the gold model 18 months later.
Looking good man! Thanks!
That Tudor bronze is the nuts! Love that watch.
Which box is this? Wolf?
Yep!
RolexOmegaCartierTudorAnother r/watches bingo 😒🎉
…every other watch in your collection is fantastic, though. You deserve some credit for that
Is that Master Ultra Thin the white gold one? This is a hell of a rounded out collection OP, love it
Master ultra thin is sweet, does that one have a silver/Slate dial? Or is this a lighting trick?
Yes, it’s a silvery gray. Very versatile. It’s not as striking as black, as hum-drum as white or as trendy as blue.
Great collection. we have quite similar tastes and collection philosophy.
The UN Freak is among my grails. Can you tell me what the ownership experience is like? Do you wear it often? Do you get comments on it? Is it fragile and therefore you’re constantly aware of it on your wrist?
Any insight or other anecdotes would be fascinating.
BTW, fantastic collection. Aside from the Freak I love the blue VC and the gorgeous JLC.
The FreakX surprised the hell out of me and has every bit earned a spot in my collection and regular rotation. Some days I do consider reaching even deeper into the Freak line, but what I love about FreakX is how approachable a form factor it is; the other models don’t have crowns and wind from the caseback, for example. It’s the gateway drug to Freak land, apparently.
Ulysse Nardin watches are actually quite durable. Did you know they brought the silicon hairspring to the world of horology? Now even Patek is using them.
It gets comments and questions, and I can always tell who the watch collectors in the room are from the lingering gazes. I’ve never come across another guy wearing one. But most people, of course, don’t notice watches at all.
It’s light and made out of titanium, and has lots of fun and unusual hidden design flourishes. I wouldn’t say I “bang it around” but I wear it quite comfortably. Sometimes I long for even more of that visual intrigue and Freak DNA. But the restrained look does make it fly under the radar and makes it more daily-able.
Thanks for such a thorough reply. Sounds like a fantastic watch to wear and a unique experience for the wearer. For the time being I hope it’s okay if I live vicariously through you!
One day…one day.
Love the diversity in your collection! What strap are you rocking on the Speedy?
It’s a Color 8 Horween shell cordovan strap some small-time strap maker in Vietnam made me.
Im happy as well both with the watches & the box
Not a Patek fan I’m assuming?
I like Patek plenty! Just has never been a priority for me and I prefer VC as far as Trinity manufactures go.
That’s a great box of watches you have. I have a feeling you’ve collected a while and have arrived at a good number for yourself. I’ve arrived at a box of 8 that are all “never sell” and I’m trying not to buy while I’ve also told myself “if something comes in, something must come out”.
Either way. Great box. That Blue VC is absolutely stunning!
Lol yea, I would be too. Give me that chrono overseas, GMT Master, and Speedmaster, and I could never buy another watch again and still be very happy
damn dude - you’ve got a three bed / two bath in a mid-size city sitting in that box. love the dj - is it a 36?
When you put it that way, it sounds a lot more attainable 😂
Yep, I love the DJ36! Easy wearing, but a nice bit of glimmer.
In what city? Not mine that’s for sure
True. All told, looks to be, conservatively, around $140,000 to $150,000 in watches, assuming MSRP purchases and no precious metal versions (other than the two-tone Santos). That’s probably near or just under half the average cost of a 3 bed 2 bath in most American metros.
I don’t mean to hijack, but what major US metro area has a 3br/2ba for $300k? In a decent state, I mean.
Serious question!
Honestly, fair question. 300k in any major metro or suburban area is tough. $330k is where decent houses start to crop up in the Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota area, which is the only metro I’m really familiar with.
Fair enough. Just realize you said “most American metros”.
It’s also a question of what defines the metro area. I have a friend in the “Portland metro area”, according to them. They’re a 40 minute car ride from downtown in no traffic. Roughly 60-90 minutes with traffic, they said. They don’t work downtown, so it’s no biggie for them, but when I’ve visited and stayed downtown, it’s a drag to get them to come out. Their 3/2 in a decent area is $500k-$600k. Super dated and/or small (under 2000sqft) places are $400k+.
Damn, yeah, 500k to 600k will get some really nice houses in the MSP metro. Crazy housing markets
Florida
As someone who’s bought a house in a smaller US metro recently… $150k is only getting you a 3/2 if it’s old as hell and basically needs to be completely refinished. Housing prices are terrible still…
