Bring a Brit, I have a soft spot for UK micro brands, especially studio underdog. I happened to be in New York this week and saw the Wind Up Watch Fair was on so hopped on the subway to take a look. Aside from the fair being well wortha visit as you can chat to all the people who made these watches, it was the first chance I’d had to see the brand Inn person as I’d missed out on the releases.

The 02 is lovely in person, smaller than I’d thought with utterly bonkers lume. Still prefer the watermelon chrono, but I may end up getting one of each…

I too went to wind up and felt the watches look even worse in person. The 2 screws are such eyesores. And the name, let’s not even talk about how bad the name is.

Im not sure if I would pull it off, but it looks great! How does it feel qualitywise? I always had them on my mind but never acutally pulled the trigger on one (or misssed it), the watermelon one is also a stunner.

    Cheers

How’s that one working out? I’ve been eyeing a new GMT and came across that one. The design looks nice.

It’s nice, got some compliments wearing it. I got the blue one with the blue strap and it’s comfortable and very light considering the size of it.

I’d like it if the name of the brand wasn’t like something I would have seen on Xbox live in my Halo 2 days.

I actually asked him about that. The dial is made of a sandwich of 7 layers of lume and then sapphire glass on top. The screws hold them all together and he worked out a way to hide them but decided against it as a design choice. It being a field watch, it seemed more honest and functional. The screws heads do like up nicely though.

These screws will be a talking point for sure (and have already been). They make the watch more interesting. Personally I’m not a fan but the watch would be kinda dull without them so idk… This specific color variation is definitely the star of the show. Others don’t feel that “studio underdog” to me.

He said they’d worked out how to align the screw heads so he sort of if implied that I suppose

I actually bought a watermelon chrono as I’ve always wanted one, but I’m considering the field too - the lume really makes it.
