Just ordered a corsair k70 with cherry mx reds to replace my old k55 membrane one. Not too happy with the quality of it, feels cheap and makes a horrid noise. Think I will send it back and build my own mechanical keyboard do you guys have any tips cheers

Nice to have you here! A lot of people asked similar questions so you should be able to find FAQ and beginner’s guide on this subreddit or just search for older post with the same question. When you’ll have a better idea of what you want, people will gladly help you.

My tip would be to start with a Keychron or Akko. Keychron has 3 series of boards, essentially; K, V, and Q. You want V or Q.

Otherwise get ready to spend $300-500. And if you do, realise that you can multiply that by 5-10 before you feel you’ve explored the “basic” options of custom mechanical keyboards, and probably multiply it by 20 before you’re done.

Personally my daily driver is an HHKB Pro2.

As a beginner, get a gmk67 or sugar65, it’s cheap and easy to mess around with and mod, and has fantastic potential
