I NEVER have this problem in the summer time - my skin stays nice and glowy then and I always use NARS products.

But this winter my skin has gotten crazy dry. I’ve implemented a different moisturizer (per my dermatologist) but I can still notice my face products (NARS, sometimes KOSAS) separating on my face. It’s always so obvious and looks absolutely caked.

I’m an actor so I have to film self tapes and the iPhone 15 video is super sharp - it picks up on everything and my skin/makeup has been looking terrible.

Would love some recommendations on concealers or foundations. Or are tinted moisturizers the way to go? I only have a few blemishes - but I do have uneven skin tone and usually dark circles which are the most important things to conceal for me.

Any help would be amazing! I’m open to any brands!

The base is really important for this one! Your skincare routine should be hydrating for your makeup to function over it. Hydrating alcohol-free toner, serum/essence/ampoule, moisturisers and even your sunscreen if used is supposed to be hydrating. Go with a thicker moisturiser like CeraVe, VaniCream etc., to lock in the toner and serums that you’d be using. Tinted sunscreens are better. Use a skin tint rather than a foundation.

I think you’ll get your answer through YouTube better

Everything that’s been commented has been so helpful so far.

I want to add that my dermatologist also told me to use vanicream so I have recently purchased that - I do use arazlo as a retinol and have been implementing Paula’s choose 2% exfoliant (which I became very lax on during the summer). I don’t have a toner or any other serums, is there anything you recommend for the base?

I like a lot of Korean toners. My favourites are - I’m from rice toner, Dr. Ceuracle’s Vegan Kombucha, HaruHaru, CosRx, Skin1004, Pyunkang, Torriden, Beauty of Joseon, Jumiso

        Snail Mucin Essence by CosRx

Serums/Ampoules from the same brands above.

What I’ve seen online is mixing hydrating serums/essences and foundation together and then applying it so gives a smooth finish

Another makeup tip I personally love and use for big events - I put two dots of blush and highlighter each side next to one other and then mix it together. It looks pink and glows. Kinda two birds one stone but gorgeous finish.

I hate foundation and concealers personally. So I prefer skin tints or tinted sunscreen. Feels lightweight and looks better than a heavy base.

For your uneven skin tone - try vitamin C serums by timeless, Jumiso etc whatever’s in your budget. I use glycolic acid once a week as an exfoliant for the same reason, Azelaic acid also helps with uneven skin.

Start using Retinol or Tretinoin. If your skin isn’t healthy then a makeup would never look good. Focus on skincare more. If you want I can list my routine.

Will definitely look into this for the serums & toners. I have never had an issue with the foundation or concealer before, though I generally don’t like foundation because it feels like too much for me. But I have been interested in switching over to skin tint for some time hoping it would blend better/look more natural.

For what it’s worth, I’ve been using arazlo on my skin for over a year (which is a newer retinoid in the tretinoin family) but my dermatologist told me to stop for a few weeks since she believes it could be exasperating my dryness.

I went through something really similar. What completely changed my skin was my diet- I cut out dairy, sugar, and gluten all at once. From what I can tell since then, I think dairy was the biggest culprit, but the other two make a big difference as well for me. Of course you don’t have to take that advice though!!

Other things that really helped: putting on my skincare products RIGHT after washing my face, and not completely drying my face before applying. Using a 2nd layer moisturizer to seal in the first moisturizer, something like REN overnight recovery balm. Exfoliating mask once a week. A serum under you’re moisturizer- good one is The Ordinary Buffet. You may also like another gel layer under your main moisturizer- something like Neutrogena fragrance free hydro boost. If you feel you need a bit extra exfoliation throughout the week, use a glycolic acid toner. Keep a water bottle on you throughout the day to check if it’s dehydration as well. 😊

I can relate! My skin is also dry and flaky and has patches that foundation tends to stick to. I personally love the It Cosmetics your skin but better CC cream as well as the Bye Bye Undereye Concealer. It always leaves me looking glowy and moisturized and it looks very natural on my skin. But I also exfoliate and use retinol which I think has maybe been the most important step. Good luck!

Came here to recommend the It Cosmetics CC cream as well! It’s super rich but has full coverage plus the added bonus of sunscreen.
