So the most modern non-beater sneaker I do is the Jordan 5. When I first saw these Cosmuc Unity 3s they reminded me of Mary Poppins’ carpet bag. Now I’m thinking of getting them in the sale. Can’t work out if I just find them interesting as a sneakerhead (v Worherspoon 97 and really well made) or if I like them to actually wear. Anyone else feel this about a sneaker you admire but isn’t your normal style?

I own these ones and I quite like them. I don’t play b-ball, I’m just attracted to kicks that aren’t the usual hyped up ones.

What The Dunk and everything else from What The series are too weird for me. Looks like people are wearing the wrong shoes.

Plus anything see-through, like the ebay pair. I think they’re interesting for display, but look weird on feet and turn into a foot steamer

I was just thinking about this when I saw some what the dunks a few days ago. Yeah I guess they’re cool from a fan perspective, but damn they’re some ugly shoes.

I love the current look of Salomons. The urban hiker aesthetic is super in right now but it doesn’t fit into my look at all. I’ve bought multiple XT-6, XT-4, and ACS Pros but sold most of them.

I have no intention of buying a shoe that I’m not going to wear at some point. Gotta be a responsible adult.

I think the performance stuff Nike makes is way cooler than their hype collabs. These are great

I think it’s also worth noting that like… Performance shoes very often eventually become lifestyle shoes, given time and cultural osmosis. All the OG Jordans were performance shoes. The Adidas Superstar was a performance shoe, the shelltoe was literally a tech feature. New Balance 990s were performance shoes. If you can name just about any legendary sneaker that’s more than 20 years old it was probably a performance shoe when it debuted. Even Converse Chuck Taylors were performance shoes once upon a time.

20 years from now it’s very possible that like, Cosmic Unity 3s and Jordan Deltas will be the “hype retros.”

Maybe it’s just me but I hope hype retros become a smaller part of the industry as a whole, and brands focus more on innovation. The reason those shoes you mentioned became cultural phenomena is because they represented the peak of their respective times. Everyone had or wanted them. If you look back at photos of those eras you see those shoes. If in 30 years you look back at photos of this era it will all be retro something. Not too many cosmic unity or alphafly unfortunately.

Aside from performance and signature models from the top brands, I’d say that pairs from alternative brands like Serious Players Only would fit this category. Super niche, and for a very specific purpose only which is basketball.

I would want to wear the Cosmic Unity. I just think I would be ridiculous. Maybe as slippers…

Agreed. They’re super important to the history of sneakers but they’re not actually a good sneaker design. I’d be down with more shoes having an Air Mag colorway but the shoe silhouette itself is not good.

Love the idea of the space hippy and my pair is very comfy but they just look kinda goofy on me. Talking the mids.

The Jordan 9 NRG green Abyss, I ended up grabbing the shoe in a whim, but the colors on it are to crazy that I can’t find anything to wear with them
