So the only makeup I do is eyeliner and mascara, sometimes lipstick & highlighter. However, I’ve been wanting to get into more colourful eye looks so I’ve gotten some eye shadows. My problem is that each time I try to wear them, I feel like it looks awkward since I don’t have a full face on. Is it just me being paranoid and not used to seeing myself with more makeup or is this a real thing?

More info: my skin is skin is clear and freckled, not overly greasy or overly dry. I’d say I have good skin, but definitely not airbrushed perfect skin which is why I think the eye looks look weird.

Try wearing only a blurring primer. Idk why but it makes a noticeable difference for me when i want to wear eye makeup without base. Also a little blush goes a long way. (Source: also heavily freckled)

I stopped wearing foundation and concealer. Now I just wear blush and highlighter on my face when I do eye looks, and it’s totally fine!

I almost never do a full face but love fun eye looks. I usually go in with some concealer under eye and then a dab by the nose, chin, forehead. With some blush I feel like that can really tie it all together.

I feel ya. Having one area of the face so perfect and the other natural.

I make sure my brows are groomed and nicely filled in and I have on a lipliner that stands out as a deeper than natural tone to give the rest of the face some polish. The defined lip seems to add balance to the eyes.

If I still need more, I may add some powder around my nose. I sometimes use the Dr Jart camo drops which tones down redness around my nose but otherwise I try to avoid it.

I prefer my face without coverage as it keeps some dimension to my features I lose whenever I wear a base.

Good luck and keep us posted on how things work!!

I’ve been hesitant on filling in my brows… they’re already darker than my hair (even though I dye my hair colourful). My big fear is if I start filling in my eye brows I might a) over do it and look ridiculous or b) get used to seeing myself with my brows filled and start feeling uncomfortable without that. Same reason I don’t wear wigs or use extensions even though my hair is super thin and my biggest self conscious point, I just don’t want to hate it even more.

it can look weird without some base makeup! i would recommend a tiny bit of undereye concealer, translucent powder to set, a bit of blush at the temples, then highlight! & something on the brows - at least a gel to set them in place.

I really don’t want to wear any foundation/concealer, would just the blush & highlight be okay?

My eyebrows are pretty well shaped and dark

From an aesthetic point of view, wearing a full base is like having a blank canvas to work on, so colorful eye looks tend to look better with a full face. There’s also a certain completeness when you do all the steps.

I feel the same. I am very into bold colourful eyeshadow looks and I often don’t want to put on face primer / foundation/ concealer/ setting powder. Especially since most of the month my skin is fairly clear and even. But I do find it looks odd for some reason. On days that I want to skip the face makeup I generally just do a bit of cream blush, highlighter, and either blush or highlighter on the lids as well, and then a coloured or black winged eyeliner, lipstick or gloss and mascara. When I want to do a full face I go full on with eyeshadow

I never do a full face when I do any eye look. Always just a little bit of concealer, some blush, highlight and brows. I think it just takes some getting uses to to wear more bold makeup that oyts the focus entirely on one part of the look.

Its all preference lots of people look nice with eye makeup and no complexion products but if it would make you feel more comfortable maybe skin tint or tinted moisturizer would help you achieve what you are looking for
