They’d still clown on the new shoes. Either make fun of the color, the brand, call it out for being a discount bin pick-up, or call it fake.
Also I’ve seen bullies feeling challenged due to this and retaliating. Either dirtying the new shoes by stamping on it or pouring shit on it. At times even beating up the bullied kid and stealing their shoes.
What they’re doing sucks and I’ve been in your shoes and have seen it happen to others. But “fixing” the subject of their mockery forces them to either pick on something else, or breaking it down to points that they can hold over your head.
