It sort of fits the rugged appeal, without being just show. For instance, you could get a Rolex explorer, or an 856 which has better technology for scratch resistance, anti magnetic properties, low pressure resistance, etc. Basically sinn is just trying to make a watch that is invulnerable for harsh environments. I think they also look bland, but my 105 is perfect for me.
