I’ve been unhappy with my makeup the past few months. I’ve bought a few new things here and there but haven’t loved anything. I decided I want to start from scratch. What are your absolute must haves? For reference, my skin is dry. I am open to matte or glowy for foundation. For all other products I don’t have any preferences.
Nars concealer and I love the fenty tinted moisturizer
Hi luv, I suggest experimenting with various samples of skincare products first. One of the biggest factors why you don’t feel as good with your makeup is probably because you aren’t prepping your skin as well as you should. Trust me, skincare makes a world of a difference when you do makeup. Everybody’s skin reacts differently to different brands though no matter the price point so try to get your hands on free samples or experiment with smaller containers first. As for actual makeup products, I really recommend exploring drugstore options first to see what you like and once you get a better idea of what makeup style feels most wearable for you, that’s when you can slowly start upgrading your stuff. I personally love products from Clinique ( i love their lippies), Nyx, Rare Beauty (their blushes!!), and Dior. The Lash Princess Mascara is a recent fave too!

Here are some of my favorite affordable products. ELF putty primer or power grip primer are the best, also their putty blush and bronzers are pretty good too. Their halo glow contour and halo glow liquid filter for under your foundation are good. Wet n wild highlights are my favorite and last forever. My go to blush, contour, and bronzer are sheglam right now, they are amazing and cheap you can get them online. I’m loving sheglam, their products are pigmented and really affordable! Honest mascara, essence princess lash, bye bye panda eye are my go to drugstore mascaras. For foundation and concealer I use farmasi and love it!
Milani make it last setting spray. For Brushes Real technique or morphe, as well as some ELF ones. I love Morphe eyeshadow palettes they are pigmented and easy to blend and have so many different ones!
Have fun shopping and rebuilding your makeup collection!!
I have dry skin too!
Biggest game changer was getting a moisturizer that penetrated and lasted under makeup. I love tatcha. Bobbi brown face base is also a good skin prep in alternative to Tatcha.
This year I took a deep dive in trying to find quality products that work for me so similar to you I started over. I took a splurge though as I just wanted to find something that actually worked and not keep searching.
-
Chanel Les Beige Complexion touch. (I got my lightest/darkest) I just mix accordingly to seasons. It works very well for my dry skin.
-
Hourglass concealer. I get the minis and that’s plenty as it’s extremely pigmented. It has very brightening element to it and it works perfectly hitting all the spots you would want to conceal. Having a good skin base is important as this dries fast.
-
Hourglass blushes or ambient pallete. Chefs kiss. Best blushes and luminous finish. 10/10.
-
Chanel Les Beige bronzer (yes it’s expensive but the glow and color is just unmatched. The amount in there will last you two lifetimes.
I keep an alternate mini Milk Bronzer stick and it blends perfectly well too.
- Charollete tilbury setting spray. Yes I have fallen into the cult but seriously for us dry skin people this just melts and glows and does everything you would want and it has a solid lasting power. I tried various other sprays thinking CTB was overrated but finally took a dive and yeah. It’s amazing.
