Or, everything else should cost less. Here is my glashutte original panoreserve. I love it. I have known about GO for awhile but hadn’t really looked at it as an option. Last year I went to Watch Time NYC and they had a booth there.
First, quality was nuts. Seeing it person they’re so much nicer than what pics portray. Most impressive watches there for price I saw.
Second, everyone was so friendly and non judgmental. By comparison the guy at Breguet booth was such a pretentious douche bag it’s put me off the brand a bit.
Anyway, went and bought my own shortly after. I put a sickly mint strap that gets dirtier and more moody looking everyday, just the way I like. It’s manual wind and I like that I get to spend 15 seconds winding it everyday I wear it.
Looks so good on that strap
I keep coming back to this one or the moonphase version in green. Blue is really nice but already have a blue watch. The green is equally as nice but I feel it would limit wearability with some outfits.
Amazing! Congrats!
Fully agree that pictures don’t do it justice. Especially on the grey model. I was convinced I wanted the classic German white with blue hands until I saw the grey in person and did a full 180. Here’s mine (please excuse the steering wheel flex)
Ha! Same!
It looks like it would cost waaaay more than a Rolex Sub, but it costs about the same.
Congratulations on not falling into the Rolex cult!
🙏 thank you and agreed
In terms of what complications and decorations it packs, even the „small ones“ like the „digital date“, absolutely could it cost more. But with GO being owned by Swatch it is carefully priced in such a way that it doesn‘t compete too much with the other brands.
What kind of strap is that? Been looking for something similar
I absolutely loved and wanted this watch, until I saw one in person (at least, the panolunar version) That thing is a THICK boi. face on it looks amazing, 3/4 side view, turned me off. too much slab slided ness. Still, I’d buy one at a discount, but not G/O AD near me.
Panoreserve is thinner than the panomatic lunar, maybe because it’s hand wind instead of auto. This model doesn’t feel like a slab.
yeah, that’s why i posted the panolunar in parenthesis. TBH, I wouldn’t be interested in the reserve.
for me it’s the font on PanoReserve.
Hmmm, yeah it is a bit thicker than normal, feels and looks nice to me
GO watches somehow tend to be a little on the thicker side I realised actually.
You could always just go for a Lange 1. Very similar look, not nearly as thick for like 5x the price lol.
Yeah, the lange stuff is cool. But if I’m spending that much money, it better be for a Patek, or some other Holy Trinity piece.
I’ve never heard someone say a lange isn’t part of the Holy Trinity haha
Holy trinity is Patek, AP, and VC.
Although ALS is up there in finishing, and Rolex probably sells more than all 4 of them combined.TIL. I’d never heard of that term before. I would have assumed something like FPJ or ALS are considered higher end than those brands.
Maybe in used to sports watches but 12mm isn’t thick? Do people think the Daytona is thick? Because it’s only 0.1mm thinner than this.
I have the 39.5 SeaQ, very happy with it. I think they’re priced well, and others are priced poorly 👍
When they put a display caseback on that baby she be going home with me.
I said the same thing for almost 2 years, finally I said F it. Glad I did! I actually really enjoy the engraved case back, much more interesting than my Rolexes.
And people wonder why there are so many memes.
DON’T ADVOCATE FOR HIGHER PRICES!
I’m not, I’m just bad at expressing my thoughts through writing. If you read the whole thing I’m just trying to say that the prices other watches fetch for what you get is nuts and that GO is a lot of value for money. If I could rewrite title I would
Personally, despite everyone going gaga for GO’s movement finishing, it’s not anything special. They have Geneva stripes (what brand doesn’t at this point) and only decide to actually do something artistic when it comes to the balance cock. And they shut away the whole thing under one big plate. I find myself much more impressed by the art i see on old pocket watch movements and Raketa’s.
Look at some of their older ones from a few years ago actually. Their panomatic chrono and such. Really great finishing there.
Yeah this one is normal as in, nice but only really wow on the Swan neck basically.
There’s a little more to it than this. Need to ask why it was done this way and what benefits does it add?
Such as? Probably for artistic reasons.
From a machining perspective it is very difficult to make a 3/4 plate. If something is slightly off the whole bridge is scrapped. Being able to attain perfect alignment across all the wheels under one bridge with tolerances under .001mm is a huge accomplishment. Making individual bridges for every wheel is much easier and why you see it a lot in older pocket watches. The drawback to this is you lose a degree of robustness and accuracy across the whole movement. German movements done in this way are tough af
This reminds me of something I’ve been thinking about: Orient movements are a lot more conservative than Seiko one in what they show off. Would you say that this makes them a little more robust?
The bridge is hand engraved, there is gold inlay
I like that part, but the rest feels rather boring and unoriginal
Glashutte Original is a huge standout on this chart. Makes Rolex look like the Dr. Dre Beats of the headphone world.
Wouldn’t GO be the Beats, since Rolex movements are focused on performance while GO is focused on aesthetics?
No. Glashütte is overall great. Rolex is just… plain and safe basically with the looks.
Again, with this headphones comparison, Rolex can’t be beats if they’re function over form.
Wow, that is a seriously beautiful piece. Never seen this reference before. Wear in good health friend, that baby is gorgeous!
No, It should cost less.
- Amazing watch
- What a strap choice, works perfectly to liven things up
- The only thing I don’t love about that watch is the dial text. Part of is any text, part of it is the poor font choice, part of it is that having ‘GANGRESERVEAUHSFARTEN’ on the dial - no German swear words needed. To be honest, this has been a dealbreaker for me so far.
I’m embarrassed to say but it’s a Hodinkee strap. Haven’t been able find the color otherwise.
Fair enough about font. Could have been printed in a grey slightly lighter than dial. No need to draw so much attention to it.
My one beef with the watch is that GO does not sell parts. They are the only ones that can service it because of this, hence the $750 service price. To that I say, fuck you, I’ll make the replacement parts if I have to.
I think you take the look and don’t worry about the hodinkee heritage, it’s basically perfect (and I’m sure there are at least a few more, would love to see it on a light grey suede).
Yeah I think there are numerous things they could do to soften it or improve it, and hope they do. Seems to be a glaring design error IMO, I’m surprised it seems to stick around.
And service certainly is a bullet, hop you can dodge it.
But enough about the bad, it’s a gorgeous piece and you have made it better. Enjoy!
Thank you 🙏
i am sure they would accept a donation if you feel you were undercharged
