When growing up I remember teens used to love converse shoes, it was kinda like their white air forces when I was growing up now I was wondering if I should get a pair or if the brands fallen into irrelevance or for a reason such as not being comfy etc. (shoes would be to skateboard in and general use)

Converse will always be around and will always be cool.

I wouldn’t really recommend them for skating though. The upper material is very thin. You’ll have holes from the first ollie that you pop.

The bottom is extremely flat and the outsole is vulcanized, so they do skate really well. They just won’t last long at all. There are some that are meant for skating that would be reinforced in the important spots but I don’t know where to find those or how much they’d be.

If you want something similar, and similarly priced, that would be a MUCH better skate shoe I’d recommend Vans Sk8 Hi or Vans Old Skool. The sk8 hi is a similar silhouette to the chuck Taylor but it’s designed for skating. It’s got suede panels on the high stress areas from skating that’ll last a much longer time than converse. Old skool is basically a low top version. The old skool is a bit cheaper than the sk8 hi but they’re both pretty close in price to the converse. All under $100 usd.

    Also teenagers definitely wear vans.

If you want something that’s going to skate well and be similarly comfortable to the air max 90’s you’ve been wearing, you might have to go a different direction. This subreddit probably only knows Nike sb for dunks but they have a bunch of other silhouettes that are a lot cheaper, a lot more attainable, and a lot comfier and skate better. Or go to a skate shop and look around. I’m not super familiar with skate shoe brands, but there are a ton and someone in a skate shop will help you out a lot. Skate brands are usually pretty cheap too because they know their shoes are made to be destroyed.
