Why does everyone keep calling these “southpaw” keyboards?
A true “southpaw” setup will have the mouse on the left side of the keyboard, which would make the standard layout the “southpaw” one.
As proof of this, I would point to the posts by several people in the comments here who are right-handed, and have finally discovered that the standard layout is ass-backward for them, if they want to keep their hand on the mouse. On the good side, it’s nice to see right-handed people starting to question “how we always done it”, and creating their own solutions for the problems they encounter.
That’s just how life has always been, for us left-handers.I mean, I’m just calling it this because that’s what other people call these designs so it’s an easy reference point, this is me, I’m just stealing some of the tech you lefties have been hiding from us right handed people since the invention of the keyboard and mouse
I realize that.
I just feel somewhat compelled, as an actual “southpaw”, to point out the fallacies associated with the name.
I wouldn’t want any of my fellow southpaws to buy into the name, without taking the time to examine the functionality of the product being offered.
Poggers
Fugg yes!!!
Love to see it. I’m a year or so into designing my own board (for personal use in my case) and have been learning a lot along the way.
Even just choosing the MCU was a rabbit hole and I get at most an hour each night to figure
some things out before one of my kids wakes up.Any advice you’d like to share that might have made your journey easier?
Dope keyboard bro, congratz
Now that’s what I’m talking about.
That’s a steeep price
Baller. Not my style, but still baller.
wow, that’s awesome! i’m always on the lookout for unique layouts, and this definitely fits the bill. can’t wait to see the final product!
This is the final product, no renders, all pictures, it’s already shipping to the warehouse.
I’m a simple man; I see a big keyboard, I upvote,
Expect a bulk order from Ned’s Leftorium!
Anyway, as a southpaw myself, I applaud.
Wow. It is inspiring that you could make this happen, and it looks great.
As a right handed CAD user, I love numpad/macros on the left hand. Unfortunately, the nav cluster would be in my way on this one.
Great work! Good luck selling them off, and I hope you enjoy your custom keyboard!
Man I really wanted to wait for this one, but I bit the bullet on the Southpaw WindX R2. Can’t wait for the Wombat my dude
Nice board! Bad timing! :)
I like full size and just bought a fossil (building it at the end of this year). When getting into the hobby this was exactly what I wanted.
A few questions:
How long will it be offered for purchase (gonna see if I can make this work)?
How many individual macros are you expecting it to support with the 64k memory?
It’ll be offered for sale until it’s sold out, so could be for three months, could be for three days.
And as to macro capability, it supports 64000 characters, but due to via being weird and not being able to dynamically add macros it has 128 macros available on the board to start with, you can increase this in QMK, but I feel like 128 is a pretty good number to start with.
The 64k of eeprom is actually a QMK limitation, the board I think has 256k onboard (maybe, I can’t actually remember off the top of my head), but it’s limited to 64k as QMK kind of dies if you go over that.
Thanks.
I agree, 128 macros to start should be fine.
How many units were made?
We’ve got 100 on the way.
We will have such until we run out, purchasable on keyboardtreehouse.com. Come check us out and support our work!
