I bought a new pair of Clarks suede loafers (navy blue) and I wore them today for the entire day. I was standing/ moving around for 8 hours. Now my left foot is hurting really bad in the heel area and also there’s pain in the back of my leg and back of my thigh. My right leg is fine.

Was it wrong to wear new loafers for the entire day? Is there a breaking in process that I missed? I love this pair and I want them to last. Please tell me how to wear them and also what can I do now for the pain?

I hope it’s just the fact that I wore them for too long too early, and not that it’s a bad pair. It’s my first suede and first Clark’s pair.

Shoes like that can be a bit stiff at first. I have a pair of expensive leather shoes that I wore for too long the first day and gave me a blister on my toe for a week.

After that I wore them a bit at a time, got thinner socks and they’ve broken in so that they’re fine now.

Get shoe trees and keep them in there when not wearing. Wear them in short stints - 15 mins to the store and back, around the house for a bit, etc.

The leather should stretch and form to your foot as you wear them more often.
