If you have dry eye and need to frequently apply eye drops, do you have a technique for how to do it without ruining your makeup? I can’t do mascara or like non smudge-able eyeliner because when I dab at my eyes to get the extra liquid that spills it’ll smudge everything. Any tips?

Second part, if your skin is very dry and you are applying moisturizer very frequently but it’s still dry enough that foundation and concealer can look really cakey, are there some foundations that are better for that?

What can you do to make lipstick stay around if you have a habit of licking your lips a lot? Like I like a subtle blotted lip stain type look but I don’t know what products or application technique could help with my bad habit

Any tips or product recommendations on any of these would be really appreciated, thanks!

get one of those beaded eye masks that you can warm up via microwave and use that every night for about 3 mins…this will “exercise” the oil glands in your eyes and alleviate dry eyes (this advice is from my eye doctor). Make sure you read the instructions on the eye masks; don’t put a piping hot mask on your face but it has to be warm to get the oil glands going.

1: Systane Complete PF has a nano dropper. The beads it puts out are perfect. It is a very good eyedrop so you usually only need 1 drop and it lasts. I know dry eye is different for everyone but that drop is nice.
With dry eye you probably should not be doing mascara or liner to further cause problems. Get your lashes tinted. Don’t use eyeliner. It is more important to see and save your eyes.

    1. What are you washing with? Have you been to a derm for your dry skin? What type of makeup do you use now that looks caked?

    2. Lip licking = Just stop it. I know that sounds stupid but you need to practice not to lick your lips. Its not healthy for your lips even if you didn’t have lipstick on. It chaps them. I would stick to lighter lip glosses or a tinting balm without much color you can reapply INSTEAD of licking. Every time you want to lick. Apply balm instead.

Oh thanks for the eye drop recommendation, I’m constantly trying new ones because it’s just so hard to find stuff that’s easy to use as often as I need to use it. At night I use overnight gel and I have some anti allergy drops but unfortunately I do have an autoimmune thing that causes dry eye. It’s also kinda related to the dryness of my skin. But yeah mascara and liner aren’t really options for me. I’m not even sure I would risk getting my eyelashes tinted without consulting my doctor just in case there’s some risk factor I hadn’t considered. My skin used to be way dryer, like flaking off if you rubbed on it, because I had a lupus rash across my cheeks and I didn’t even want to try touching it with makeup after a bit, which is why it’s been so long since I used foundation or even really eyeshadow because sometimes the rash will spread up to right under the eyebrows and I didn’t want to put stuff that could potentially be an irritant on it. I used to wear makeup in high school when my skin was dry but not yet actually a rash and it was probably cakey af back then because knowing 17 year old me I was probably throwing on like some super full coverage foundation with no moisturizer or primer or like moisturizing sunscreen.

When I made this post I had been trying to use a bit of color pop “pretty fresh” foundation combined with CeraVe moisturizer and my skincare routine is cetaphil hydrating foaming cream cleanser (hydrating glycerine, vitamins B3 and B5, prebiotic aloe) trentinoin cream at night, clascoterone cream in the morning, and coola classic face sunscreen 70+ as well as the coola face mist sunscreen 50+ on top of any makeup just to make sure I got sunscreen in as covering as a layer I can because im always nervous I didn’t put enough of the other one on. Plus I can reapply the mist stuff throughout the day without having to rub my face a bunch and make it all red. I’d like to find a powder sunscreen that felt like it was getting coverage but like I’m always worried I’m not getting enough because I can’t really see it. I don’t love the kinda greasy/shiny look you get from using a spray but like I work 12 hour shifts and sunscreen only really lasts 80 minutes so I gotta do something.

For context, lupus is a very photosensitive condition and even just regular bright overhead lights can cause issues so any makeup I do has to keep in mind that I am definitely going to be using sunscreen on top repeatedly and it’ll need to be patted in a bit so I can’t like, contour and stuff.

Anyway I think I saw a comment that suggested trying something lighter like a bb cream and I googled like best foundations dry skin so I ended up grabbing the maybelline eraser treatment makeup octinoxate sunscreen broad spectrum spf 18 and doing more of like lightly dabbing it on so I’m not using as much product, and it did help a lot. I think I’m gonna have to accept that with the eye situation there’s just limitations on my options and I can do subtle looks that don’t involve eyeliner.

I’m on those two prescription creams because I have some issues with acne that have been getting better but I hadn’t really brought up the dry skin with my dermatologist because I had been more focused on the acne and I hadn’t started experimenting with makeup again until like, a month or two ago and it’s not as obvious that my skin texture is dry/bumpy if I don’t put foundation on it

I would look into experimenting with a cream cleanser over a foaming one if you are having dry problems. You can also rotate and only use the cream cleanser for when you are really dry.

I am glad you are fine with no eye makeup. It really is best for your vision.

I would try using IT cosmetics CC full coverage moisturizer or foundation with spf 50. It really is a soothing makeup line. They also have various finishes of foundation and powders with spf too. Highly recommend the brushes too.

I hope you find something that works out. Dry issues are such a beast.

Is eyeliner bad for your vision? I have to use like cleansing eyelid wipes and stuff to prevent allergens and whatever from getting on my eyelids and eyelashes so I guess it makes sense that mascara and stuff would be irritating for your eyes. My eyes are extremely delicate, like I lack a tear barrier and have to go see an autoimmune eye specialist (in fucking may of next year, which is the first appointment they have available which is kind of crazy) so I have to be really careful with these things. I’d never heard of eye makeup being bad for your eyes, is it just mascara and eyeliner or is even adding a bit of eyeshadow away from the eyelashes irritating?

The worst thing you can do for your eye is apply eyeliner in the inner waterline. You have little oil pores in there and if the clog, they can die and not come back. Waterproof mascaras and any eye makeup in general can clog up the little eye pores by direct application or fall out.

With eyeshadow : You do have to be cautious and google what you use. Personally I also have sensitive/clinically dry eyes so I stick to one color mono lid so I know if I am reacting to a color shade. With dry eyes you want to try out cream/gel formulas for best results. Personally I use a cream stick for a base for powders just because I prefer the powder formula app. (usually CG or maybelline or a vitamin e stick)

If regular face moisturizers (creams or lotion) aren’t doing the job, I recommend using a face oil. I find I use my Brush on Block face oil more than my Drunk Elephant (better price point too!). The Brush on Block face oil is my last step in my routine and I wake up with smooth dewey skin, especially in these cold winter months.
