Yeah old bobas yellow over time. Lots of plastic does, no big deal. They still work the same, just a different color now.

The milky housing bobas (now discontinued iirc) have discoloration issues, i have some just in a bag in my closet and they are getting discoloration too, and the ones i used in a board before discoloured faster.

gazzew addressed this, this specific version of the boba has been discontinued due to discoloration issues related to eva foam i believe, so now the u4ts that are milky are technically a different mold than the original u4t. although the black u4t is still the same.

    edit: found explanation:

New switches are being made using a plastic that is not subject to yellowing when exposed to concentrated outgassing from EVA foam (Formamide)

Lol shit, that explains what happened to mine. I put them in my Candybar but didn’t finish building because I couldn’t find proper keycaps for that board, so I put that partially built board back into the gold foil box.

Just opened it recently and was shocked; I thought it was the gold box, but this makes so much more sense.

As other redditors mentioned bobas milky housings are known for discoloring. Just wanted to highlight that the plate looks almost pristine for a brass one.

Aslong as they’re feel and sound the same, i dont mind. The discolouration on your is quite consistent, actually. It definitely looks like a different switch now while mine is still the all black boba u4ts… i need more colored switches in my life. xD

Outgassing from foam, not from brass. Metal doesn’t cause this change. It looks very good though. The case sat still so the gas was able to penetrate fully and evenly. Put it away for another 5 years and see what happens.
