About to pull the trigger on a Dekla type-B flieger – I know the brand seems highly regarded on watchuseek, but just wonder what the opinions are here. I know they are not one of the original 5, but they are still German, essentially hand made in house (besides the movement), and a lot cheaper.

Also, if anyone is Canadian and can comment on how badly they were hit with UPS feeds and/or duty/taxes it would be great. Seems the only options for shipping are UPS Expedited and UPS Saver.

Except for those specifically marked as “replikafliegers”, all of the major brands made changes to the original Luftwaffe-issue B-Uhr; if for whatever reason you feel the need to LARP as Erich Hartmann with a dinner plate on your wrist over your bomber jacket, Laco is your best bet.

Stowa>Original Laco but the Laco “Pro” or “Custom” get pretty close, if you actually want straight lugs and a diamond crown, I don’t like the fake patina on the Laco Pro’s but Dekla seems to have a nice balance without shoving dirt into the lume

I was casting about for a nice fairly dressy handwound (ETA 6497/98 movement) flieger. Looked at Stowa, Aristo, Archimede, Laco, Dekla, and Steinhart. Was aware of the opinions various people hold for the prestige or desirability of those brands, but tried to make a level-headed decision about it.

Wound up with a Laco Bremerhaven, at a good price. Happy with it. The price/performance ratio was important. Stowas are quite nice but I decided to go Laco like a taco. I happen to like fliegers and dive watches moreso than other types.

Workmanship on the Laco is good for the price point, watch currently running between 6 and 10 seconds slow per day (reasonable for the type / movement). Display back view tends to impress the casual non-watch person who sees it, and I enjoy it, too. Hidden blinginess.
