Came into the company outside hire as a Store Manager 6 months back (unaware at the time how bad the company is doing), chasing a career to hopefully District and Regional positions. Post store layoffs I’m now considering quitting the company due to potentially it going underwater. I get loyalty but that doesn’t get you anywhere in this day and age. Any opinions on whether staying or leaving to pursue promotions elsewhere?

i made a post last year expressing all my frustrations of working for vans yhe past couple years (it was a bit of an incoherent rant tbh), as an assistant store manager and then casual employee, but seeing all these posts about mass layoffs doesnt surprise me

vans management is severely out of touch with the culture and demographics that make the brand what it is. i started in october 2021 as an ASM, and was specifically told i was hired because i was one of few people applying that actually skated, and that they wanted to connect with and support the local skate community, yet over the course of 2 years every effort i made to give my managers opportunities to be involved in comps, events and the skate community in general were dismissed or ignored

i love vans, but i honestly hope the brand sees hard enough times so that the idiots running it all into the ground are forced to reflect and hopefully rethink this whole greedy bullshit “maximise profits” approach

    or something

i sae this coming a long while ago, and it sucks, but i kinda feel relieved that i was right and not just seeing things through a jaded/idealistic perspective
