Hi all!
This is my first time posting in a makeup sub and I feel a little out of place. I wear light makeup daily for work but that’s about it- so I’m definitely not a big makeup person.
Anyways, I have many random brushes that I use daily. None of them are high quality except for maybe one that was donated to me from my older sister. I’m struggling because I have perioral dermatitis that is triggered by many things and something that seems to cause flare-ups is “abrasive” materials. My current makeup brushes seem to be too “abrasive” for my skin and are constantly causing a problem for me.
That being said, can anyone recommend SOFT makeup brushes? I mean soft like hair-coated-in-leave-in conditioner-soft or like your favorite fuzzy blanket.
Thank you in advance!!! Links are super appreciated!
Rephyr, BK and I just got a really soft fluffy brush by Real Techniques that wasn’t expensive (blush/bronzer)
Ecotools brushes are soft. They’re affordable and easy to find, too. For complexion products, I’d generally recommend airy sponges over brushes though, as someone else whose skin also gets irritated by anything slightly scratchy. I really like this one from elf and the bioblender sponge from ecotools
Hi, just had an additional question to clarify - you mention these are light makeup looks. Are we talking complexion brushes or eyeshadow brushes specifically (I assume complexion?)
ETA: Sounds like it’s not your first rodeo either so I’m sure you’ve thought of this, but are your brushes old? To be expected but they get frayed, old, and increasingly scratchy over time
Tbh, if brushes are too abrasive I’d just use a sponge for wet products and a puff for powders.
I would’ve never considered this! Thank you for the suggestion
I like colorpop makeup brushes, I think they are very soft
This is what I was going to suggest as well. I have the light blush/rose gold face set in the leather holder that stands up — have you tried the eyeshadow brushes in this format? I’ve wondered about them.
Yeah I have the set that has the face brushes and the eyeshadow brushes, and I love them!!
I don’t think they’re cheap but I’ve noticed MyKitCo brushes are heavenly and soft! You definitely want synthetic hair over natural hair brushes for a softer texture. I also always love touching the It brushes in store because of how soft they are but I haven’t tried them
It’s time you try Kumano Fude. Japanese brushes. Fude is like an entire makeup brush subculture. Google and learn all about it but in short, natural bristles that are bundled by Hand- and the natural tips are never cut into shape. Hence the hand bundling for shape. This technique along with using various grades or higher and higher quality (softness) bristles leads to the absolute softest brushes on earth. Beautylish selks a few brands of fude if you live in the USA. Wayne goss, Sonia g, koyudo, and Chikuhodo to name a few. They’re more expensive (sometimes) but many options are on par with prices from NARS, MAC, and few other high end brands at Sephora for example. You won’t find softer than fude
