90% of keyboards I see for sale, have either scratches, dings, or both. Even the aluminum ones which are supposedly tougher have them. I have no idea why they always have surface damage, unless the previous owners throw, knock against walls/corners, drag on rough surfaces or smash them out of rage.

I have carried and transported my keyboards several times in the past and none of them have sustained any damage, and I wasn’t even trying to be ultra careful with them. It seems so hard for me to damage keyboard cases unless I intentionally do it, therefore I really don’t understand how people manage to ding or scratch their boards.

some come that was due to shipping or a wrist rest scratched them . im mean shit happens . but ur forgetting the main reason . they r selling them due to this damage . if they were no scratched they would prob be less likely to sell . welcome to the 2nd market if u want pristine devices then , look for BNIB sales and pay the mark up

Honestly didn’t think of that main reason, thats a good point.

A friend of mine has lent me several of his keyboards in which he regularly rotates, and I have noted that they are all flawless from top to bottom, side to side. I returned and made sure they are all remained flawless. So it made me just wonder how on earth do people handle keyboards

My keyboard sits on a table 99% of the time, but I still have soldering acid damage, a couple of dings and corners are worn.

I am very careful with all of my tech, but for some reason, the keyboard just wears out even though it’s made of metal.

Some people just drop stuff a lot… and drop things onto other things a lot. Some people just use them as tools. Some people sit for hours cleaning them with a blower brush then display them. It takes all kinds. We’re a broad church :) I don’t agree with your 90% figure though.

I’ve scratched a couple of mine pulling keycaps, moving other keyboards around, while building my pc. I even scarred a spacebar with a soldering iron once.

Shit happens, it’s ultimately a tool and I’m not going to be heartbroken if a tool shows some use.

Some people are just irresponsible and dont take care of their own stuff. You can sometimes see pics in the subreddit with disgusting keyboards filled with all kinds of shit.

Let me tell you… all of my keyboard case damage has come from another keyboard when they are close together and I’m working on them or just checking them out. All of them. Nothing scratches the keyboard more than another keyboard.
