I was in the market for a couple of decently priced coiled cables, and after doing some preliminary research online, I decided to go with Matrix Keyboards since they seemed to have pretty good shipping times. I ordered two of their Midnight Coiled Cables on Nov 2, one for myself and one for my girlfriend as a birthday gift (both of us are keyboard enthusiasts).

The package did arrive on schedule about a week later on Nov 10. However, upon opening the package, I only found one coiled cable inside, despite the printed receipt in the same box listing my order for two coiled cables. This turned out to be only the first issue. I opened the packaging for the coiled cable I had received and noticed that the cable was faulty as well. The USB-C side of the cable near the coiled end was bent the wrong way such that when sitting on a desk, the USB-C cable head would be oriented vertically. This made it very awkward for one to plug it into a keyboard without the coiled portion standing up on its side.

I immediately emailed them that same day (replied to my order email at matrixkeyboards@gmail.com) to let them know about my situation, but I have not heard back from them at all since then. It has now been about two weeks as of my time writing this (Nov 24), and I am still stuck with my one faulty coiled cable even though I had paid for two.

I have very low confidence that they will ever get back to me or offer a refund - I think at this point I’ve accepted that I threw my money down the drain. Just wanted to let the community know about my extremely negative experience with Matrix Keyboards, and if you were looking at them for coiled keyboard cables, you’d probably be better off ordering from somewhere else.

Honestly, it’s depressing how many webshops/suppliers fuck it up these days. Not just in this hobby but in general.

I feel like standards have slipped a lot since covid - stores got away with being lazier and offering worse service because everything was fucked in general. So they seem to’ve become accustomed to not offering good, timely service anymore.

We really should nail stores like these to the wall and hold them accountable.

People seem to want cheaper and cheaper things all the time, and I’m sorry, you get what you pay for. Sellers are just responding to what they are told people want, which is cheap shit, as quickly as possible. No one wants quality any longer… just cheap and fast.

I agree that shit stores, that sell shit, should be exposed and shamed, but seriously… it’s a $19 cable… what, seriously, do you expect? A good cable for $19? If anyone thinks they are getting a good cable for that price, they are deluded.

Personally, I’m not cheap - I certainly do spend more for quality. But even so, I’ve noticed that the stores where I’ve shopped for years now have worse service in general. And let me tell you: prices haven’t gone down either.

I definitely agree that you shouldn’t expect top level service for bottom of the barrel pricing though.

In this particular case, where the customer gets the incorrect amount of an incorrect item, well, that’s just terrible in general.

So long as people keep insisting that they want cheaper and cheaper things, then corners need to be cut to meet that demand, if it’s not in the quality of goods, then it through using as few staff as possible, paid as little as you can get away with.

You pay peanuts… you get monkeys.

You get what you pay for. You will never get a good $19 custom cable, and a company shameless enough to sell such awful looking cables clearly doesn’t give a shit about their reputation, as there’s always the next person to come along in search of a bargain.

          Sad… but true.
