If you are looking for actual product it may be best to get a Sephora gift card (that or maybe Ulta if you are American). Cosmetics are a highly individualized thing when you take into account skin type, skin tone, sensitivities etc. If you do still wish to purchase product despite this a good option may be a “Sephora favorites” set. They vary in price and contain an assortment of color products. You can consult those who work there for recommendations that might go over well.
Not sure exactly what you’re looking for, but Sephora has sets. Macy’s has kits like Clinique.
