Long story short, I got a job as a lot attendant at local car dealership. I’ll be on my feet walking for 8+ hours a day, soon to be in sub-freezing temperatures. Need a shoe that matches well with khakis (it’s a luxury car dealership, need to look somewhat decent) and be comfortable. No color preference, need to be good in cold weather. Thanks!
You’re tripping me up with the need for them to look nice and being a luxury dealership. Otherwise I was thinking like a nice pair of leather boots like Timberland which could be waterproof. They can look okay with khaki pants or slacks but I don’t know if they would work for you in this scenario.
I just googled waterproof dress shoes. I came up with these but can’t swear they are waterproof. I don’t know if that’s super important, but I’m thinking that waterproof ones would tend to be warm. These would definitely work well with khakis.
Maybe Google insulated dress shoes.
For comfort you probably don’t want like a straight-up office dress shoe. Especially being in a cold climate you don’t want anything leather sold because it’ll just get torn up.
Go with something like this and treat it with some mink oil (waterproofing for dress leather). https://www.johnstonmurphy.com/xc-flex-connelly-shearling-boot/02005683-080-M.html
Yeah that’s a tricky mix of criteria—maybe take pics if weatherproof boots/shoes that look/are comfortable, and run them past your supervisor so you don’t waste money. I can’t imagine they want you to get frostbite so those chukkas or Timberlands will pass muster. I’ll add these gore tex ones that are definitely waterproof.
I feel like you could use 2 pairs of footwear here. A good waterproof boot for your outdoor duties and a sturdy dress shoe for indoor duties.
You dont want to be fucking with your feet in wet and cold. Also keep 2-3 pairs of socks to change into as needed. Dry feet are happy feet.
Congratulations on the new job.
