If I’m doing a big bold eye look, I think it’s kind of hard to do eyes first even though the fallout gets everywhere. It’s really hard to evenly contour and apply blush around a big ass, smoked out eye look when you get to the temples. But also, I don’t always want to bake so much to keep the shadow from sticking to my cheeks. It’s a real 🤷‍♀️.

Day to day, I’ve found I prefer to do eyes first now that I’m getting older (38) and doing less full coverage skin. If I do eyes first I notice myself using less concealer because the eye takes focus from my skin. And while I still wear a lot of look on my eyes, it’s usually neutral enough to work with if my sheer complexion makeup bumps into it.

But if I’m planning to go full coverage on my skin for a photo shoot or something, I still do skin first so all that concealer doesn’t end up on top of my eyeshadow. Gotta accept the bake.

It sure is. I’ve worked years in the beauty industry. Glitter shadow has no place in a little tiny pan in a palette. It falls apart in shipping and quickly crumbles with use—it can’t survive in there for long. But makeup is sold as much by pretty product shots and swatches on social media as it is by function these days, so it’s there. Because it’s pretty to post and people expect it at this point.

I could have written this comment. Also into the Pretty Grunge. Also love Viseart the most. The first Pretty Grunge I ordered had a glitter that broke and came out of the pan, Sephora sent me a second one free. I wish I could share my extra palette with OP! It definitely is awesome for the sort of lavender/cool neutrals. Orangey neutrals are not it to me for day to day.

  • Sigma Beauty—they steal product ideas from other brands, art from artists, the owners are deeply racist, sexist and homophobic, have incredibly narrow standards for what’s considered ‘beauty’, they take terrible/abusive advantage of their employees, the quality control is intentionally questionable, the ‘books’ are very much a sketchy secret—a real nightmare. They could probably find me out and sue me, but everyone that’s ever worked for their headquarters is surprised it’s still standing.
