Can someone explain to me why some Vans Authentic shoes have a slightly taller sole and rubber upper-wrap which seems to come further up onto the canvas upper? I’m not talking about the “Platform” sneakers as those are taller than what im referring to. I’ve included a comparison image as an example. I prefer the taller sole but don’t know what search term to use to find them. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Skate version has a different design for the rubber that wraps around the toes being squared off at the ends, and duracap branding. The doheny looks more like the era with padding

I think most of the time it’s just different sizes of the same shoe or camera angles. The Midsole will be the same height on the same size shoe if they’re the same model

the higher foxing tape model looks like it could be an anaheim factory/vault model. that’s a common characteristic of anaheim and vault models.

Taller soles is how i always remember vans looking a few years back, nowadays all normal vans are the lo-version. If you want the taller soles these days you have to get something from the ‘vans vault’ range

its a size thing, the soles are the same thickness and the foxing tape is the same height, a size 4 mens authentic will look like it has a taller midsole than a size 18 pair of authentics, even though both have the same height of foxing tape.

i can tell they are different sizes due to the number of eyelets and the proportional size of the eyelets

Just to correct your terminology, the rubber on the sides of vulcanised constructed shoes is called Foxing tape. Chances are those are different versions, the one with the lower foxing tape is the standard Vans Authentic, while the one with the taller foxing is either from the vault line or the Anaheim factory line. The skate line also has higher foxing, but the toe is a little different.
