People act like illiterate children like you can’t tell time without indices. You can tell time knowing where 12 and 6 are, unless if you had a stroke.
I like Christopher Ward watches and although some are turned off that they’re made by Fossil it doesn’t really turn me away, they’re still good quality watches. This moon phase isn’t really my style but I can appreciate it for being a nice statement piece.
OK now I am finally interested in CW as a brand. That dial is in my opinion, better executed than any other Aventurine dial I have seen, including Lange’s limited edition two-hander, which was one of my favourite dials up until now. Now just have to figure out to get one!
I can’t tell the time!
What’s the time? I don’t know, but I can tell you the current phase of the moon if you’re interested.
What do you mean? It would not be that hard to tell the time on it.
don’t know alot about christopher ward. but gosh darnit this is a beauty!! does the moon go through phases?
Yes, using the crown
Moser enters the chat
Their moon looks really too simple for the price honestly. Compared to this one anyway.
I would very happily buy that… I would love a Moser but will never (realistically) be willing to afford one. For less than 10% of the price I may have to go for it.
If CW could do Ressence next, I would not be angry…
A CW ressence would be a dream but I don’t see them doing both the satellite dials and the oil fill on the same watch in their usual price range
If CW could de Ressence next, I would not be angry…
Oh man. Would be interested to see something like that. Love Ressence. Just wish I could afford one, lol.
Which one is this? By Moser too?
Nope! Ressence is a completely different watchmaker.
How do CW watches keep their value? If not well, I’d probably look at this pre-owned.
41 mm dress watch? No thanks
$2475 on the bracelet and $2350 on the strap. Nice aventurine dial and no horrendous logo to ruin it. Not bad! A pretty cool Arnold and Son alternative
What’s with you people and that logo. It’s arguably one of the better ones in this whole industry.
It’s such undeserved hate lol
Watch logos are stupid. I think CW is one of the only ones that has actual thought behind it. Is a Crown or a Shield that much better?
I have the impression that people disliked the old written out logo, and then the opinion just carried on by circle jerkers to the new logo lol
Someone mentioned Minecraft on here once and - although I’ve never played it - I do see it everytime I see the logo now.
I do agree though, it really isn’t that bad at all.
People have different opinions, that’s all. I personally am not a huge fan of the logo, but don’t hate it. It’s just meh for me. Others hate it, you love it, and the world continues to spin, that’s the beauty of our opinions.
I get that, and i understand the meh feeling. But i’ve seen active constant hate and people mentioning it. That part i feel it’s so overblown.
People hated the old logo. They switched to this one, and people didn’t realise it was the old one got a lot of hate, so they thought they were supposed to hate this one. It’s completely nonsensical.
The old logo was pretty ugly but the new one is good imo.
I’m seriously tempted, I’ve always wanted a watch with an aventurine dial.
Christopher ward is becoming a front line watchmaker.
They certainly have become the front line advertiser in this subreddit.
It is a bit fishy OP only ever posts news about watch launches and comments on his own posts, most of which are CW.
So the cynic in me completely agrees. CW is definitely advertising here.
But, like, these watches have been really good. I don’t own CW, I hate the CW logo, and I don’t intend to buy a CW, but I can’t not admit that the twelve, the bel canto, and now this have all been fantastic releases. The watch lover in me strangles out the cynic. Let the ads come.
Tbf I’ve done something similar with Boston Dynamics on my own account and have nothing to do with them. I would see a new video and notice no one had posted it in the engineering subreddit. For 3 on the trot I was the first to post it, always hours after it had been released. If you find something a company does interesting, you normally want to post it in the subreddits and see some discussion about it. Plus, CW is on a bit of a run now with the last 3 releases so it wouldn’t surprise me if that’s the case with other users here.
With that said its naive not to think CW, and all watch brands tbh, will be using there advertising groups to drum up interest in places like this
It’s hard to say that without sounding a bit bitter, but you’re absolutely right. Watches are released almost every day, but most aren’t posted on this sub with the website text copy and pasted like we see here in with almost all CW releases.
I personally don’t care much if this is the case. I just hope people browse this sub knowing the fact that it’s used heavily for advertising.
They get a lot of hate for their logo, but they’re doing more interesting things than the vast majority of watch companies in their price range.
Thankfully the logo is only on the crown here
Are they though? Other than this watch/the moonglow and the Bel Canto (which I have on order, so I am not a CW “hater”), I have always felt that the brand plays things pretty safe. I’ve heard them referred to as “premium vanilla”. Good quality, good prices, but nothing else they put out really excites me. Even the popular Twelve feels like the latest watch to jump on the integrated bracelet hype train.
They also have a true super compressor (whereas pretty much every other super compressor out there just looks like one), and their in house SH21 movement (120 hour power reserve via double barrel mainsprings, COSC spec). So that and the ones you listed make four pretty interesting aspects from a technical/design perspective. When most companies are just slapping sellitas into cases I’d say that’s something yeah.
I’m not a buyer for a lot of their stuff, but I do think they do more interesting work than a lot of brands in that price window.
I guess I was thinking more in terms of their designs. In terms of the tech, I feel like CW does things just to show that they can, in a sense. “Hey look I can make a 'x”, too!"
Super compressors are a relic for a reason; they aren’t made any more because they don’t need to be. Simply having a high quality seal has basically made super compressor technology relatively obsolete.
Likewise, my personal opinion is that any power reserve over 3-ish days is a gimmick. Either you wear your watch more or less daily, or it’s in a rotation and even a week of PR would likely not suit you. I guess technically there’s the “stop wearing Friday and it works on Monday” argument, but most upscale movements have a sweet spot in the 2-3 day PR range.
Even this watch, Zelos, Omega, others have already done aventurine dials. As cool as it is, it still feels like CW is saying “hey, me too!”
I guess I’m just playing devils advocate. I like the brand. I guess I was hoping for a bit more from the announcement though.
Every single analog watch is a relic
I love vanilla and would love to get premium vanilla ice cream at my local supermarket but unfortunately I have to order it online, that’s CW. I really liked the looks of the PRX they had at Macy’s but it felt cheap and my Seiko 5 didn’t feel premium so I got the Trident.
Looks like a front line Moser rip off.
Nah, the resemblance is only superficial, on a static picture. On the Moser the moon “phase” is just a simple round flap that covers image. On the C1 moonphase the moon actually moves across the dial.
And looking more closely at the dial, the Christopher Ward looks 10x better than the Moser, for 1/10th of the price:
Thanks for the good laugh.
