Don’t get me wrong Mido is in no way „cheap“. But I feel like at Mido you can get a lot for your money. The Divers really look good and it’s quite easy to negotiate them down in prices. Are they somehow out of fashion? Is something going on with the brand I don’t know about? And most importantly: If you own one how do you like it?

Longines, Mido, and etc are what luxury Swiss watches are supposed to cost. The cost is already dumb but to go beyond just proves what a bunch of men’s jewelry enthusiasts we all are. Why? Let’s face it. Few of us are actually taking apart, cleaning, and maintaining our watches let alone other watches for fun. We’re not hobbyists. We’re a Prada like sub about collecting watches.

Mido is dope. Great bang for buck. Buy it.

To me, they’re just a swatch group sub brand with mostly bland design. There is no character or defining design language there.

Well said. They seem like solid watches but the designs are quite generic. Kind of like Tissot’s divers which are so basic that it’s as if someone just told AI “design a diving watch”.

The multifort TV big date is probably the only model of theirs that feels unique or well thought. I personally think the rest of their catalog just looks like fashion brand or “industry trend average” designs. The swtach group also stuffing the powermatic 80 derivatives in all of their models makes their near $1k price seem fishy.

I have an Ocean Star 200C and love it, even though I don’t wear it too much anymore as my Sinn 104 fills a similar role for me.

Although now that you mentioned it, the saleslady immediately offered a 10% discount before I even talked about the price.

I have an Oceanstar decompression timer gmt world time. And I really love it. Great watch. Has that little something special in the design. It has an interesting movement. Jumping hour hand. And it is running within +2spd which is much better than some of my more expensive watches.

    I concur with ops sentiment

Absolutely yes. I have a Mido certified chronometer that I got for $375 as a discontinued model. It’s beautiful and I love it.

Mido is really bringing the heat. The bracelets leave a little to be desired but, can you really complain at the price point? So they use pins… So does the iconic 1st gen planet ocean all the way to Patek which is who we should really be wagging our finger at.

the amount of snobbery here… as usual

TLDR: it’s a kind of a rant below, sorry. But Mido, Longines, tissot, etc are very good watches, well built and many people just diss on them to feel superior.

Despite what many people want to make you believe, in this world and economy, if your watch cost as much or more than many people’s wages, it IS a luxury item. Then you enter the discussion of “entry level luxury”, “mid level” or “high end luxury” which is a vision forced by this industry to justify abhorrent high prices and to endorse the need to show your status from very high income people. This might hurt some people but it is what it is.

Sure I can admit that there are some watches that are pieces of art built by hand and have a tremendous engineering process. I can understand some of these watches costing thousands. Then throw out some precious metal or gems to the mix and then bang!, we’re talking hundreds of thousands… add a limited edition and now we have millions! I’m cool with that. But now we’re in the same territory of those guys who eat steak bathed in gold and stuff like that. Just stuff that very rich people do and/or buy to reinforce their status or just because they’re bored.

The problem is when this vision is forced upon all of us. “wow that powermatic 80 shit”, “mido, tissot, longines aren’t worth it and are all shit”… such fucking toxic nonsense is just baffling… sorry to break that to you guys but your Rolexes, Panerais, AP, Pateks that you use to shit on other less expensive brands aren’t worth what you paid for them.

“oh some parts are made in China so it’s trash”… even if this is true, I hate to break it to you but a lot of high end goods (technology, furniture, clothing etc) all have some sort of production in China and other countries alike. Still doesn’t affect their quality.

In the end you enjoy what you enjoy and I’m cool with that. You can and you spend 20-50k on a watch, ok. I’m happy for you. Just don’t go dissing on other brands (and by association what other people can or not afford).

I own a Mido Multifort Titanium. It’s actually my favorite watch, I wear it more than anything else I have, but I would not recommend it or the brand. It’s actually broken at the moment, and I’m about to send it for repair for the 4th time since owning. I’ve had 2 separate issues with the crown (not screwing down, and not manual winding) in addition to twice it just stopped running, like right now.

Obviously this might not reflect everyone’s experience with Mido, I might just have a dud. It socks because it is my favorite to wear (when it’s running 🏃‍♀️)
