Hello!

I’ve been looking for a good red lipstick for a while now, but anytime I’ve tried to buy one, it’s always too pink or too purple. I’m not looking for too bright of a red either, more of a rose or darker red I guess. I am also fair skinned.

I tried buying two (Nyx red velvet gloss and Untamable matte) today that in photos look RED, but on me both look hot pink…?

Try Mac Cosmetics Ruby Woo, Anastasia Beverly Hills Satin Lipstick - Cherry, Pat McGrath - Elson or Makeup Forever - 406 Cherry Muse

In terms of formula, for high end brands, I’d look into Too Faced’s Melted Matte liquid lipsticks (maybe either “Nasty Girl” or “Drop Dead Red” for a darker red lip), or for drugstore I’d go for NYX’s Soft Matte Lip Creams (in either “Budapest” or “Madrid”). I haven’t tried out those colours in particular, but I’ve worn the lipsticks in different shades and I barely feel them at all when I’m wearing them.

Sending well wishes, hopefully this helps! :)

MAC Ruby Woo was a game changer for me. I’m very pale and found most reds just didn’t suit my complexion.

If OP is having trouble with her reds pulling to pink or too purple, MAC Russian red might be a better choice than ruby woo

Do you have any idea what your seasonal colour palette is? Have you tried going more orange red/tomato/coral red (towards spring colours) or towards brick/terracotta (autumn reds?)

I second Ruby Woo but it leans a bit orange for me.

I have a few reds by GXVE that are my go to’s. They last all day - even longer than more expensive brands.

I have a red by Pat McGrath Labs that is slightly drying - not prepared to recommend it or the KVD red - just not creamy enough …. the color is actually great.

Violette_fr petal bouche in whichever of the 3 draws your interest the most. Not cheap, though, but her reds are just so freaking perfect.

I also have the issue of reds turning pink.

For a christmas red lip I recommend:

    • Nars Power matte liquid lipstick in Starwoman

    • Givenchy L’interdit

    • Maybelline Pleasure Me Red

For darker more muted red lip:

    • Pat McGrath Geneviève

    • YSL slim matte 09 (the gold cap one)

My favorite is Russian Red or Chili by MAC. But Chili is more of a brick red. Depending on your complexion it may come out more orange.
