I have been too nervous to try another colour than a light pink because I don’t want to purchase something I won’t use. I don’t know how to tell what colour suits me best?

I saw somewhere someone say to test it on the inner part of your finger when you go to Sephora or Ulta. See if it matches your skin tone or put your finger next to your face to see

You can go to a Sephora or an Ulta (Ulta is for more affordable options) to color test different lipsticks , and possibly have a worker there tell you your undertone. Your best option is knowing your undertone: There’s many !! but the main ones are Warm, Cool, Olive, and Neutral.

Also find out what kinds of lipsticks are you looking for. Do you want more fun, experimental colors? Neutrals? Bolder colors like vampire red or bubblegum pink? There’s soo many options and you don’t have to rush to find all your favorite colors , for lipsticks specifically it’s up to you if you want to try cool, warm,or neutral toned colors. I feel like that part doesn’t matter much because I wear cool toned lipsticks all the time, even if I’m warm ;)

For me, I was super scared to test out anything other than neutral colors (I started with a tinted balm) , and even a darkish pink looked too bold on me … Now All I wear is vampy reds/berries and I’d love to try more colors. It’s seriously a process

I know exactly what you’re feeling. So many lip products I never use bc the color just doesn’t look right on me.

I started just googling for reccomendations. So I’d put in the search bar “best lipstick colors for light neutral skin tone”. Got a great baseline from that. Then I got in to seasons and it took me a couple years but finally figured out I’m a Soft Autumn. Knowing this has made makeup and clothes shopping so much easier. I have a grid of colors that look best on Soft Autums so when I’m shopping I just check it to see if the colors are close enough. It’s always right 100% of the time. I love it.

Well, anything that looks good on you should be fine. The most important thing is that you are comfortable wearing it. :-)

I’m Asian and have fair light neutral olive skin, NC 20 and Tarte 14N. I used to wonder why warm lipsticks made me look sallow.

Then I read discussions on OliveMUA here on reddit and realised u can check your arm veins to see if they look more green or blue. Green means you are more warm toned and blue more cool toned. A mix 0f blue and green means you are neutral.

So if u have skin like mine it will have cool neutral undertones with yellow overtones. So cool or neutral based lipsticks and blushes work best.

Not sure if this helps 🥰

I’ve heard pinching your figure for about 30 seconds or until it turns a pigmented shade of red/pink and then trying to find the shade closest to that works well.

Someone taught me a couple of trick. 1. Match it to your areola (around nipple part). Or pinch the tip of your finger, the colour it turns will match you. This is how I found my favourite shade of all time and I get compliments daily on the match.

The secret is… you can wear ANY color you desire. All it takes is confidence. PUT IT TF ON. You know you look good, others can feel that. I wear black, blue, green, and purple lipstick unapologetically. We’re approaching winter; if you want to try deeper reds, browns, or nudes, you’ll easily blend in with everything that’s trending anyway 🌼
