I ordered the GMK Bordeaux group buy cable from RnCables.com in July 2022, with an expected ship date of Q1 2023. In early March, they posted an update in their discord announcements channel that the Bordeaux and Indigo cables were “wrapping up production” and they were aiming “to send them out around mid-April.”

By mid-May, we hadn’t heard any more updates, so I messaged the owner directly. Three days later, he responded, saying that the cables were almost ready, the cables were coiled, USB connectors were soldered, and they were just waiting on the aviators to be painted.

That was the last time I ever received a response. RnCables is online on discord nearly every day, but refuses to acknowledge messages and tags sent by anyone. His moderators are all set to do-not-disturb, and haven’t chimed in at all. One of his affiliates attempted to reach out, but did not get a response. I replied to my order confirmation email (sent from info@rncables.com) in September and October of this year. The October reply bounced as undeliverable.

All the while, on Reddit, RnCables (u/raykcy) was showing off his new PC with an RTX 4090.

In the past month or so, a couple people in the discord did report that non-group-buy cables they had ordered in August finally shipped. So it appears that something is happening behind the scenes, but all of the paying customers are left totally in the dark. I don’t care if there are delays with fulfilling a custom product, but I expect periodic status updates, especially once it is months past the expected fulfillment window. Otherwise, it just feels like a scam.

At this point I have zero confidence that I will receive what I ordered, nor a refund. Unfortunately, the purchase occurred too long ago for my credit card to allow a dispute. I just want to make the community aware, that if you were considering ordering from RnCables, don’t.

Too bad people don’t want minimalist cables anymore. I’d be happy to fill that void again.

I ordered a GMK Hannock cable and had to wait months. Emailed, discord, etc. I issued a chargeback on my CC and waited another few months for the dispute to settle. Right before the last day for the vendor to respond, these idiots post a tracking number saying the package was already delivered when I never received it.

At this point I was like holy crap, this is the most annoying scam ever, I’m going to have to write a letter to my CC company to get my money back. About 7 days later the freaking cable actually arrived. I’m still shocked I actually managed to get the final product after all the hell I went through.

Moral of the story, stay away from this cesspool company

No idea. See my post elsewhere in this thread. It makes no sense, not even for the cable maker. There’s literally no advantage to it like there is with keycaps and keyboards. The initial investment is so low in comparison.

It makes you wonder just how someone can still not have shipped cables 18 months later doesn’t it?

I can relate the amount of work but in 2 days 50 coils can be cooked and in 10 days you can solder everything

Fr, group buys in this hobby are fucking stupid and people too for allowing this, I have seen way more complicated items be made in a faster time than some stupid keycaps lol

I mean I can’t talk I’m in for 3 sets of caps and a few keyboards but they’re gmk, Meletrix, and epbt. I feel like I’m kinda safe with them. Right now they’re just using group buys to keep supply low but getting money upfront so they don’t have to eat too much of the production costs. They don’t want to mass-produce the caps and have them reasonably priced and in-stock for $50

The GB I am happy to join are from Geon, Gok, singakbd and monokei. It is sad to say but small GB doesn’t give you strong confidence when there is a downturn of the hype.

For me it is UNACCEPTABLE for me to receive GB goods 1+ years after ordered. If its a small company shame and if its a big company that’s just a huge X from me. I noticed this hobby likes to go the gofundme approach and update X times before many just go silent until years later or even worse they are a no show.

Again, I have noticed this alot just in this hobby but not in other ones I have been in (for example custom car parts or bespoke computer programs and such)

My kohaku is coming after 6 months, 722 took 7 months. It wasn’t that bad, now that gmk queue is shorten to 9 months (GMK Olivia).

Run time is not a problem right now, as long as you willing to filter vendor but that’s really bad for new small business to establish anymore.

I’ve been burned on more buys than I have received.

To be fair though I hadn’t just happened with cables. Key caps, flashlights, knives… Too many incompetent or dishonest group buy coordinators.
