I was reading on Twitter and a make up artist posted that the new make up trend would be “Tonal Glam.” And from what I’ve read it essentially means highlighting the different best features on a person and using various tones to bring them out.

What do you guys think?

    The grunge makeup!

The grunge look has been dominating the high fashion lately this year, soon it will seep in.

I agree, all these grungey and smokey palettes are out, we’ll finally see more edge after the clean-girl era

Thissss, with all the 90s and Y2K fashion that’s been going around I’d put money on a Gen Z version of grunge showing up. And there will likely be a lot of TikTok boys abandoning the broccoli head to make an attempt at a Kurt Cobain mane.

Please let’s leave my 16 yo self alone. My makeup (and outfits) was so cringe back then. Ugly ass eyeliner with no colour connexion to my lips.

I would do frosty silver cream eyeshadow on my lids and black eyeliner just* on the bottom lid in junior high 😭😭😭

White eyeshadow unblended and black pencil eyeliner that needed to be melted with a lighter to work! Really complimented my covergirl twelve o’clock makeup lines and neglected eyebrows. I got teased for wearing lipstick instead of lipgloss because “only old ladies wear lipstick” in 1999/2000 …

I just laughed out loud for real. My fave was teal eyeliner and orange lipstick. And let’s not talk about the “material” of those lipsticks. Candle wax? Sure. Soap scented? Yes.

I’ve been feeling this so hard. I’ve picked up a lot of grunge themed or grunge leaning palettes the last few months. Plus brown lipstick is always my go to. Then again, I’ve always kinda been obsessed with 90s aesthetic.

I saw the tonal glam thread it just seemed like someone trying to create the next viral makeup trend. Hasnt highlighting our best features been extremely trendy these past years already?

It’s not highlighting your “best” features, it’s the opposite. It’s facial balancing and harmony. It’s more a natural approach to makeup which is a change from the, for example, currently trending bright baby pink blush everyone is wearing.

And the reality is all makeup trends are the same thing in different fonts, recycled over the years and dressed up as something new.

I think we are going to go through a phase of: “try to be a filter makeup”
Tonal glam could be filed under that.

It started with contour and now we need more ~ lol

Cloud skin is going to be about looking soft, smooth, and blurred. Modernized version of matte with a hydrated skin base.

Thin eyebrows and frosty lip looks. Like those Maybelline Wet Shine Diamonds lipsticks (oh god how did I remember that mouthful of a name?) that were popular in like 2002. Whew, I remember kid me being real upset that the look didn’t work on me (makeup back then was super brown-skin unfriendly unless you had the $ for certain department store brands).

Yes I’m Indian grew up in the UK and why did I let my friends paint teen me’s eyelids blue and give me frosty pink lips 😭😭 I showed mum some of my secret night out photos (once I was safely in my 30s lol) and she was alarmed and finally acknowledged she should have let me use her makeup, she didn’t know she was setting me up for that level of failure hahaha.

I’m Indian too, but in the US, and I had the same terrible photos I’d love to burn. Oh and the thin eyebrow trend…I am TERRIFIED of this being a thing for everyone because a lot of us don’t look right when they’re artificially thinned out. But I’ve been seeing a lot of comments that thin brows make people younger. I think that’s only true because rn only young people are trying to thin their brows; us older people are trying to either embrace their fullness or grow them back.

So much woe being an Indian teen in the UK & trying to do makeup. So many foundation disasters as we just didn’t exist in the shade range unless you wanted to be orange. So much awful eyeshadow slapped on with generic Indian dark under eyes making it look even worse as there’s no concept of under eye concealing.

The trend will be another re-name of something that has also already been done for decades, just like the others.

My brows are also not symmetrical. It makes it so much harder to make them look like they are! My eyes also aren’t symmetrical, which just adds to the fun.
