What’s up with those foundations that claim to change/adjust to match your skin tone? Is that really possible or just BS?

It’s BS, they only work for fair skin. Chanel (and maybe some other brands) does have a foundation that’s “color changing” sorta, it’s pigment suspended in a clear gel, and the pigment gets released when you blend it. I believe it’s the Water Fresh foundation specifically

I’ll put it nicely. They are a bunch of old bollocks.

They are usually sheer, so capable of matching a wider variety of tones without looking too terrible and usually are light to medium to fit a wide amount of people (although still not a perfect match). They have encapsulated colour pigments that release as they are warmed so they usually get more orange as the day goes on. They’ve been around for decades and the technology hasn’t changed, even when touted as anew amazing product.

If you fit the light-medium orange/warm spectrum you might get on with them. Otherwise get a product that actually matches.

They are basically just unblended foundations. You pop the suspended pigment as you blend, but it just turns a predetermined shade. Darcei had a whole series about it on her channel.

“Mr CEO sir, our foundation oxidizes HORRIBLY when people put it on… what should we do?!?”

“Hmm… market it as color-changing! Say it changes colors to match their skin!”

    “GENIUS”

I don’t know what to believe - because I’m wearing some Almay Smart Shade and it’s fully absorbed and blended - even though when I put it on, it was white. I am in a bit of disbelief, because when I walked past a bunch of mirrors today, it wasn’t as if it didn’t look like I was wearing foundation - it looked great - muted my wrinkles and my under eye bags. I wouldn’t completely discount it as an every day foundation for summer, to be honest.

Almay has a smart shade foundation. It’s interesting. It comes out white but changes as you apply it. I liked it ok but I mostly just use concealer these days. I’m fair skin btw
