I wear tarte Amazonian clay foundation and I stopped and now I’m breaking out all over frequently. What’s going on!?!? I have oily skin. I’m 28.
Have you changed anything else, like maybe washing your face differently?
Have you started using a moisturizer with spf or spf instead?
Maybe your skin can finally breath and now it’s purging all the gunk you’ve been building up
Silicones in foundations make me breakout. Mostly Cyclopentasiloxane but Dimethicone comes in close second. From my limited understanding and from what I found on the internet, “silicone isn’t pore-clogging in and of itself but can create a barrier that traps other comedogenic substances, thereby increasing the chance of an acne flare”. I’ve basically given up on liquid foundations and am about to try bareminerals powder, so hopefully that works out. I’ve also been recommended NARS Light Reflecting Advanced Skincare Foundation which is liquid but haven’t tried it. Good luck!
You need a non comediagenic foundation that does not block pores.
What?? My post was asking why stopping foundation made me break out! My foundation never made me break out
Sorry misread. Never heard of stopping and breaking out. Keep using it then.
Maybe it was moisturizing your skin and now you need to apply moisturizer.
Omg the foundation is water based so it was moisturizing my skin! I never thought of that! I’ve tried moisturizers and all of them make my face burn/red. I wonder why the foundation doesn’t. I’m gonna have to look at the ingredients
Don’t forget to get a moisturizer that’s high in water content and low on oil lol!
Thank you for helping me figure it out. I was going crazy 😂
No probs! It was just a guess but I always pat myself on the back when I solve a problem 😉. Your acknowledgement made me smile!
That foundation was designed to absorb oil. The foundation might also be bacteriostatic - meaning something about the foundation might make it hard for germs to thrive.
Disclaimer - thats my GUESS. I’m not here saying that amazonian clay kills germs. I’m saying that germs have a preferred environment - a particular pH, a particular food, a particular oxygen level. You might have deprived them of those things by using that foundation. And now that you stopped, they can thrive again. Again - thats a guess.
That seems like a good guess to me. My skin is extremely oily so it would make sense that using it acted as a barrier. I’m trying to have clear skin all the time and not have to wear makeup at all. Last night I wore it again after like 2 months, and my skin looks so much better this morning. The irony. 😂
I think of foundation as clothing for my face. When I don’t wear it, my cheeks and nose are red and irritated. I’ve been wearing foundation almost daily since in my 20’s and I don’t have a line on my face now at 68. My mother has never worn foundation and even though she is in her 90’s her face has been very, very wrinkled since in her 40’s. I am very diligent with skincare too. I do a double cleanse at night, which I use a balm to remove my makeup and then a foaming cleanser to wash the balm and residue off. I also do a pumpkin enzyme face masque twice a week to keep my pores clean. But my face is neither dry or oily. I’m not sure if your skin is rebelling but I doubt the foundation was hurting it.
