  • That foundation was designed to absorb oil. The foundation might also be bacteriostatic - meaning something about the foundation might make it hard for germs to thrive.

Disclaimer - thats my GUESS. I’m not here saying that amazonian clay kills germs. I’m saying that germs have a preferred environment - a particular pH, a particular food, a particular oxygen level. You might have deprived them of those things by using that foundation. And now that you stopped, they can thrive again. Again - thats a guess.

  • Clinique. The colors just don’t work for me. Black honey? Looks like a child should wear it. Their eyeshadow palettes? So little pigment they’re like the old old drugstore palettes that just looked vaguely shiny no matter what color you applied. They don’t offer much for my complexion either. I don’t HATE them. Its just very clear that I’m not part of their target population.

  • I’ve never heard - foundation first, then concealer where needed.

What I usually see is - concealer and spot corrections first. Foundation later.

YEARS ago it was popular to use Tarte Shape Tape all over. I think it was meant as more of a concealer, but people enjoyed using it as a foundation, and some as contour. But it gave a more opaque, less natural finish. Makeup styles went from extreme contouring to a glowy finish to a barely noticeable natural finish.

I’m not sure how to answer your question. The post went all over the place. The topic headline says concealer as foundation, but then goes on to talk which is first - concealer or foundation, then dove into contouring. Its weird.

Every once in a while I’ll come across a color that doesn’t blend well, but that happens with every brand. I think some shades are just hard to apply or blend. Others are easy. Thats why we end up with so many silvery whites, and coppery golds - its easy to make those colors at every price point.

1 - eyeshadow - dipping the brush directly into the powder. Reasonably hygenic. I don’t know how else they could do this. And they should spray it.

2 - dipping brush directly into the pot of liner/cream blushes. Single dip with a clean brush or disposable applicator - hygenic. Double dipping - GROSS.

3 - sharpening an eyeliner pencil before application. Reasonably hygenic. Also there is really no other way to share this among multiple people. Hopefully they sprayed it first and clean their sharpener with alcohol.

4 - mascara - impossible to know with the information given - does she use the tube for multiple clients? There ARE disposable mascara applicators, but you wouldn’t put that back in the tube. I wouldn’t want to use mascara that had touched someone elses eyes.
