  • Curl with a good eyelash curler and then ONLY waterproof mascara (Loreal or Maybelline are great, as long as waterproof) I’ve been doing this for 40years. I have long, full lashes I always get comments on. As long as you use a good waterproof mascara remover like Bifacil by Lancome or Clinique take the day off…the mascara will slide right off. Every.Single. regular mascara pulls the curl right out. I was a makeup artist and I’ve tried them all. Favorite eyelash curlers are Bobbie Brown, Kevin Aucoin, and Shiseido. Sorry, the drugstore ones don’t cut it. But the drugstore mascaras are excellent again, waterproof formulas.

  • I only use powder brow by Benefit and a good slanted firm brush. My brows are very sparse too. Once I put my foundation on I use a sponge to blend into the brow area and that little bit of dampness holds the brow powder. My brows make my “look” I’ve noticed I can go without eye makeup, without blush and without lip product but foundation and brow powder are a must. The pencils are too waxy, they look drawn on, and I haven’t been successful with markers. I find the powder looks natural.

  • I think of foundation as clothing for my face. When I don’t wear it, my cheeks and nose are red and irritated. I’ve been wearing foundation almost daily since in my 20’s and I don’t have a line on my face now at 68. My mother has never worn foundation and even though she is in her 90’s her face has been very, very wrinkled since in her 40’s. I am very diligent with skincare too. I do a double cleanse at night, which I use a balm to remove my makeup and then a foaming cleanser to wash the balm and residue off. I also do a pumpkin enzyme face masque twice a week to keep my pores clean. But my face is neither dry or oily. I’m not sure if your skin is rebelling but I doubt the foundation was hurting it.

I have a mirrored makeup table with a bright Magnifying mirror also, and it’s in my bedroom between 2 windows. I have a set of drawers on each side, one side is all foundation and powder and the other side is all concealer, mascara, brow, blush, eyeshadow…my lipsticks are sorted by color in bags behind a door that’s attached to the one set of drawers. I have an unreasonable amount of makeup, but it’s my vice. I keep it orderly it makes it easier and I enjoy my mornings putting it on because of that. It’s important to have outdoor light hit your face, not the mirror, so the light should be in front not behind and if not natural light, the artificial light should be bright white. I take a last check in front of a full length mirror that is right next to a window that has many times, caught something that needed some blending. Every single day I have a different look, it keeps life interesting and my husband says he always likes to see my different looks. I don’t get stuck in a rut. If I do a strong eye I’ll usually do a nude or lt pink lip. If my eyes are neutral I’ll go bold on the lips.

Why did you ever wear it? If you have no issue with your skin that bothers you, stop using it. You should be worried about what YOU like, forget about what others think. Sounds like you really dislike foundation, so you shouldn’t even consider wearing it. Be happy with yourself. I LOVE wearing foundation and I’m 68 I have the skin of a 40yr old and I think of foundation as clothing for my face, protecting it. Been wearing foundation since I was 20. Never went for a heavy look, still don’t…But, we’re all different, it’s important to do as the saying goes, “you do you”.

I never let anyone match me, I ask for a sample , take it home, in the morning I put it on one side of my face, take my mirror to a window and have the outside light hit my face, not the mirror, and I can see if it’s too pink, too yellow, too orange, or perfect. I am a neutral as well…I’ve found Nars to have the best shades for me…if I want to try a new foundation (I own over 100) and there isn’t a sample, I will buy it and return if it’s not right. Every place I’ve shopped takes them back with no problem.

  • Nars radiant long wear foundation. Love it, colors are great transfer resistant, and gives a healthy glow. Their concealer in the pot is great too. Once you’ve got your foundation and concealer right, the rest is a breeze. You always have to start with a good base. Cream blush if you just want a healthy glow, powder if you want more color and longevity (elf makes a good cream one, and Nars or Benefit make good powder blushes) make sure you have one set of cool shades (pinks, berries) and one set of warm (bronze or peachy) in blush and lip color. Don’t mix them, warm cheeks, warm lips, cool cheeks, cool lips…usually depends on what you’re wearing. Eyeshadow, stick to one’s that apply easily…you shouldn’t have to rub the shadow pan hard to pick up a good amount of color…if you do, it’s too dry and won’t spread as easily. Good brushes that don’t shed (real techniques makes some good ones) and good sponges, elf makes good ones. Enjoy yourself, creating your look should be fun, not stressful…
