Do you wear makeup? Do you have sensitive skin that makeup irritates?
What are some good products? What are some products to stay away from?
Yes. I din really use makeup until I started work and even so, I mainly groomed n refined to look professional. I draw my brows cos it’s sort of non existent. I do more makeup now as I age to cover the pores n hyperpigmentation as they tend to make me look tired n not groomed when I go out to face people. But otherwise, skin care is more impt.
Started lip gloss in 7th grade. 8th grade was lip gloss and pencil eyeliner. The good times 😎
I am fifty (wore makeup including foundation and coverup, since age sixteen) and just met up with a cousin I have not seen in over thirty years. She is a redhead and always uses sunblock. She never wore makeup or smoked or drank much. She is eight years older and looks at least fifteen years younger than me.
My advice is to do something in between the two extremes. Don’t wear foundation, but for special occasions, do wear some lipstick and maybe eyeliner and mascara. I like the basic “French” style makeup looks that emphasize good skincare and minimal makeup. Lots of youtubers have videos on this
I always hated makeup. I’m 36 now and still hate it. I wore it occasionally and when I was going out in my 20s, and for my wedding but that’s it. Hate the feeling of it. Feels like it’s clogging up my skin
I only wore eyeshadow, mascara and lipsticks/ lip gloss in high school . I started applying foundation around 24/25
I started do to makeup since i was 20 or 21, that time i got my first bf and the first time he saw me wearing some foundation, lipstick and some mascara he said i should always wear makeup, bc i would look better (a huge red flag i know), then everytime i went out with him i have to wear makeup and dress up. That time I didn’t learn to do skin care, even base, luckily my skin is in a really healthy condition so its not got damaged until now. Now i start to learn how to love my true self so i can sometimes go out without makeup, i do feel uncomfortable in summer that my skin is a bit sweaty and it feel a bit sticky, but i got use to it. My favorite product r: maybeline tattoo liner, and dior nude air serum de teint the foundation. The only product u should all stay away from is the fake one 😂
I was an extremely insecure high schooler and wouldn’t leave the house without makeup. I used to feel “naked” without it; vulnerable, exposed.
Now in my 30’s — I’m still extremely insecure (lol) but I never wear makeup. I cannot stand the feeling. The times I’ve attempted to wear foundation, I immediately want to wipe it all off after it’s done. Sure it looks pretty but how does it make me feel besides “socially acceptable / pretty” — It feels heavy, caked on. Toxic chemicals that I can’t pronounce absorbing into my skin, yuck. My skin feels suffocated and therefore I feel suffocated. I’d rather choose my peace 🤍
I started at the beginning of seventh grade but then kind of paused until towards the end of eighth grade / early ninth grade. I am not sure exactly why looking back. Most likely was because I was being bullied for wearing make up when others hadn’t started yet. Mean girls were all around me at the time. Based on what you are saying, you just can’t win, I tell you… :(
I have never liked the feeling of heavy make up or foundation on my skin. I am 51 years old and just started wearing serum foundations on “work from office” days because I like a more even skin tone. In my younger years I dabbled with foundation and tinted moisturizers here and there but never found a good solid routine that I wanted to stick with. I also didn’t like removing make up and washing my face. I have pretty much just stuck with eye makeup my whole life (I feel “dead” without mascara on) and added moisturizers as I got older. I honestly don’t remember removing my eye make up before bed until I was in my early 40’s. Ugh. For the past few years I have focused on skin care and making the best of what I have. I was a sun worshipper for many years and I am lucky to not have significant damage as a result. Also have found some light SPFs that I can wear during the day that I don’t hate.
Sorry for the long answer! My two cents is do what you like and want. Life is too short.
12 experimenting and maybe 15-16 wearing some outside
i was the same way in hs. kinda still am. now i only wear makeup when theres a special occasion or if i happen to wake up early enough (before class) and am in the mood to play around. which is way more often than i was wearing makeup before, tho now its still pretty infrequent. i’m way more into skin care than makeup…i see skin care as a necessity and makeup as just a fun thing to do!
if u wanted to try some new things, i definitely recommend korean skin care if your pale or a light medium skin tone (just saying this bc they have terrible shade ranges for lovely darker skin colors unfortunately). i often buy off of yesstyle bc it’s cheap. korean makeup tends to lean on the “barely there, but is there” in terms of looks. and are very skin care forward in terms of ingredients. there’s so many “korean makeup hauls” on youtube, i’d watch a few to see if anything catches your eye!
21 year old woman here and other than homecoming once, I’ve never worn more than mascara. After a while my eyes start to get a bit irritated and I get tired of the weight on my lashes, so I rarely even wear that. I use a tinted sunscreen but I only get the tinted one cause it blends in more easily and doesn’t leave a white cast and I’m reluctant to even put that on because I don’t like how it feels to put it on and times when I touch my face I don’t like how it feels. It’s goopy. Makeup has never been something I’m interested in learning and it’s so expensive I’m happy it’s not an interest of mine.
It sounds like you feel similarly and I totally agree with it feeling heavy (same reason why I can’t do nail polish). Just like shaving, using makeup is not a milestone or anything that should be expected of women. Do you, OP. Your skin will love you for it and so will your wallet.
I absolutely can’t stand mascara and foundation. They feel gross and foundation just feels horrible. It’s also all very annoying to remove.
I just use false lashes and eyeliner along with blush and use concealer on spots if I really need it. I also sometimes use an eyebrow pencil.
Makeup is not a necessity, we just do it because we like it. It’s fun. I may like to play with eyeshadows, another may be into more lip products.
For a beginner, you can start with bb creams, some lip gloss and maybe eyeliner just to get started. Then you can experiment with blushes, eyeshadows, highlighter etc.
Thank you for the tips!
It’s a snowball effect!
That’s an interesting thought. But it’s not a fact, some people stick to two-three things only that work for them instead of spiralling into it.
It’s very normal not to want to wear makeup. I started around 12 just a shitty nutrimetics eyeshadow thing and a mascara, I wasn’t allowed to wear foundation until I was 14-15.
I started around 13 years old, I had some play kind of makeup before that for fun. One of my best friend never wore it until her wedding at 27, and probably hasn’t worn it since. If you don’t want to wear it, don’t!
